ENGLAND IS A FOREST

Small Works Gallery

England is a Forest is a collaborative illustrated forest curated by Small Works Gallery. It is a virtual map and exhibition with its physical debut at Sluice [Vernacular] 2024, at The Minories in Colchester, June 2024.

Emma's tree was one of hundreds in the exhibition. The tree (Pyrus calleryana) she chose is one she always walked past on her way to work. Not only did Emma admire this small but beautiful tree, but saw the tree as symbol of London's uniquely large number of trees in the center of the major city. London has so many trees that it’s one of the greenest cities in the world with some parts being classified as woodland due to the close proximity of each tree. Although the tree is on its own within a designer high street, it is so incredibly important and this connects it to all other trees.
