ABOUT EMMA

Emma is a London-based artist, originally from a small working-class town, Ellesmere Port, in North West England.

Emma is very excited by, and curious, about the human ability to imagine, reflect, and invent language. Her practice explores the use of art as a way to communicate a feeling, a message, or to educate.  Emma's perspective of art is more scientific and analytical as Emma is naturally a researcher and utilizes art as a tool.

“My relationship to language combined with my hearing loss is an interesting one to explore.”

Emma's work for Lumiere Durham 2023 is centered around her recent hearing loss diagnosis and how she experiences a typical conversation. It visually describes the list of possibilities her brain goes through to understand what is being said.
